Hello Video and Follow Up

Blog commenting seem to work best when you select "anonymous" from the drop down menu right next to where it says "comment as:" or if you sign into your google account on the computer that you are using. This would be the same login that you use to get onto the chrome books at school.

Lalilo has said that they are up and running again after having a bit of a crash from so many users on at once (good for you, students!). So, if you feel like doing some French work, you can give that another try this week.

Here is a much shorter video than the one I originally recorded for you - just a little HELLO and THANK YOU 💗

Hello to my Special Grade Two Friends!

Hello to all my beautiful friends from room 113. Boy, how I've been missing you and thinking about you since we said goodbye on Friday, March 13th. I recorded a little video to say "hi" that I tried all day yesterday to upload, but my internet is being tricky! I'll post it as soon as I'm able to upload it 😊

First of all, I hope you are all healthy and happy and that you've been able to spend lots of cozy time with the people (and pets) in your home. If anything, I think we've all really begun to appreciate the importance of family during this rather tricky and confusing time while we work together as a community to keep everyone safe and healthy.

As your parents may know already, some websites have been created to help with online learning for the next two weeks while next steps are in development. While websites can be a great tool for learning, we all encourage you to spend time outside, read your favourite books, play board games with siblings and try new things at home like baking, building and crafting with your siblings and parents  -- these are all very important activities that also provide so much learning. If you've been enjoying doing some of those things (and more), well done! I'd LOVE to hear about what you've been up to.

Over the next two weeks, your teachers will be having meetings online to pull together and try to figure out how to best support you and your learning if we are not able to return to school for a longer period of time than expected.

***If you can, please COMMENT on this post so I know that you've seen it and that you currently have access to internet in your home. Drop me line about how you're doing, too! To leave a comment, scroll to the very bottom of this post and you'll see a box to type into. Please sign your name so I know who is typing.

With Love,
Mme Glenn-Lynes

My Favorite Artists - I Miss You💜

These are the faces I miss so much! My fabulous artists, with their beautiful self-portraits:

"L'hyme de la vie"

Here is a new French song we are currently learning. I've sent home the lyrics today that can be read up to 3x each to count as a French reading log entry. I've also included the YouTube music video so the students can sing along and hear the proper pronunciation.

Happy singing!

Weekly Words and 3-D Structures

Weekly Words:

In math, we are learning about 3-D solids and their function in the world. They students enjoyed some hands on building time and were able to construct some 3-D shapes and structures using toothpicks and plasticine. Here are some of the 3-D structures they build? Can you recognize some of the 3-D solids?

Weekly Words + Mini February Summary

Our weekly words (which we've been working on for during the shortened weeks) are the following.

Part 2 of the "oi" sound in French which makes the sound "wah"
DictĂ©e for these words will be on Monday, February 24th.

Mini February Update
Image result for february

Math - We have just wrapped up some 2-D Geometry (an independent task on this will be coming home shortly). We have started on some 3-D Geometry which has included some hands-on building tasks.

Science - We are currently working on a unit about solids, liquids and gasses and discussing the various properties of matter. We will be doing some experiments including mixing liquids and solids and changing properties of matter.

Art - To match our learning in math, student have been creating designs using 2-D shapes and have been using Miras to help them create symmetrical pieces of art.  These will be displayed in the hall shortly.

French - Thank you to all who attended our plays! They were a huge success and the students learned so much. We will be moving on to some French story writing and doing a some shared reading activities together on a mini French novel. We continue to build the skills and stamina needed to converse in French socially and during designated French instructional time.

Language - We took a little bit of a pause form James and the Giant Peach, but have taken it up again. We do vocabulary studies with each chapter and in journals, the students make predictions about what will happen to James and his insect friends. The students have also been exercising some media literacy skills in creating a product and writing/performing an advertisement for it. These will be recorded and loaded to the blog shortly.

We will soon be doing some persuasive writing, based around "I Wanna Iguana" by Karen Kaufman-Orloff.

Music - We have been learning how to read music and play short pieces on the Glockenspiels! The students are becoming very proficient at reading B-A-G in the treble clef and on reading rhythms.

As always, feel free to write me a note or contact the office should you have any questions or concerns. The students work hard every day and I do my best to communicate important matters in the planner, but I am always happy to have more in-depth conversations at your request. I will also reach out if there are any major concerns based on what I'm seeing in class.

Thank you for all you to do to support your child's learning at home. We are looking forward to warmer weather in the coming weeks!

Sincerely,
R. Glenn-Lynes

Les Trois Petits Cochons

I am so very proud of our class for their French play presentations. Thank you to all who were able to visit our class and see the plays live at the end of January. Here are some recordings (unfortunately they aren't from the original performances and some groups had to improvise and perform in the hall - thanks for being flexible!) for your viewing pleasure and for students to revisit if they wish. We hope you enjoyed our dramatic performances. I think the students were able to take away a lot of new skills from having completed this collaborative group project.
